Once upon a Rainbow

It starts: MioMiniPony

The first set of MLPs came out in ITALY approximately in 1984. It included at first only four of the six original ponies, but it was soon followed by a new release of the complete set. The set included:
Blu (Bluebelle), Cannella (Butterscotch), Lilla (Blossom), Minty (Minty), Pinky (Cotton Candy) and Polly (Snuzzle).

Blu (stars symbol) & Cannella (butterflies)

Lilla (flowers symbol) & Minty (clovers)

Pinky (spots) & Polly (hearts)

Noticeable differences between the Italian set and the standard set include the fact that Polly (Snuzzle) was originally released as a white-bodied pony and only later as a grey-bodied pony, and that Cannella (Butterscotch) had white hair instead of gold.

The original set of six has been frequently re-issued, and as such, lots of different variants of them exist. In particular "shape" variants ("dwarves", "hunchbacks" and "Macau-like" Italian ponies). Find out more about them here.

Please note that later, more Italian exclusive ponies were made in the same mold of the original set. Most of them were "hybrids", in which symbol and colours of two or more early ponies were combined. Those, however, were part of a later series, not part of the first set.

La Dolce Stalletta

La Dolce Stalletta (the equivalent of the Pretty Parlor) came out about in 1984 in Italy. It included a pony made in Italy, Pesca (Peachy) and her per kitten, Brillino (Twinkles). This set was quite popular and was often re-issued, making her probably the most common Italian pony. There are many different variants of Pesca, mos of which slightly vary in mold shape.

Pesca is, as a rule, a peach-bodied pony with pink hair and symbol, with hearts on her rumps. Because of her similarity to Polly (Snuzzle), the two are often confused and considered variants of the same pony. However, they are actually two distinct characters.

Another common mistakes among collectors, is to consider white-bodied Polly (see above) a white variant of Pesca. This is quite incorrect because the white pony was sold as part of the first set, and named Polly, and later she was re-issued
by the same name with a grey body. Pesca, on the other hand is a different pony usually associated with the parlor playset.

La Stalla delle Stelle

La Stalla delle Stelle is the Italian counterpart of the Show Stable, and came out in 1984. The playset included a pony, Limone (Lemondrop), and her pet dog, Whisky (Brandy). Due to its popularity, this playset was re-issued  frequently. However, a late version of it is said to have come with a different Italian pony, a brown-bodied hybrid, with  butterflies as her symbol.

There are many different variants of Limone made in Italy, other than mold shape variants. Symbol variants are particularly remarkable, in that the number and design of their drops are significantly different.
